The Best Colors for Display Testing
Why Color Choice Matters
Different colors can reveal different issues with your display. Using a variety of solid colors is the most effective way to test your monitor's health.
Essential Colors to Test
- White: Best for checking for dead pixels (dark spots) and backlight bleed.
- Black: Reveals stuck pixels (bright spots) and issues with contrast.
- Red, Green, Blue: These primary colors help identify color-specific issues, like a subpixel that's not working.
- Gray (50%): Ideal for checking uniformity and color banding.
How to Use Them
Open a fullscreen color tool and cycle through these colors. Take your time and look at each one carefully. Move your eyes around the screen to catch any anomalies.
Additional Tips
For a more thorough test, you can also use gradients to check for color banding. But for most purposes, the basic colors above are sufficient. Remember to test at different brightness levels, as some issues only appear at certain settings.
